French Drain Installation in Maryland

If you’re dealing with a wet yard, standing water, or drainage issues around your home, a professionally installed French drain system can solve the problem for good.

At Go Away Drains, we specialize in French drain installation in Maryland, helping homeowners eliminate water buildup, protect their foundation, and restore their yard.

What Is a French Drain?

When a yard stays muddy for days or water starts finding its way into your basement, the problem is usually trapped underground. French drains are designed specifically to handle this hidden groundwater, intercepting it before it can cause damage and safely routing it away from your home.

Think of a French drain like an underground gutter system for your yard. While standard drains catch the visible water flowing over your driveway or patio, a French drain catches the water trapped inside the soil.

If your yard feels like a wet sponge, it means the water has nowhere to go. A French drain gives that trapped water an easy escape route, pulling the moisture out of the ground so your yard can actually dry out.

How a French Drain Works

Water will always take the path of least resistance. A properly installed French drain provides exactly that.

  • A trench is dug with a slight downhill slope.
  • A specially slotted pipe, surrounded by a filtering material, is laid inside the trench.
  • As the groundwater rises in the soil, it naturally flows into the filtering material and drops into the pipe.
  • Gravity takes over, guiding the water down the pipe and safely discharging it away from your house or yard.

When Do You Need a French Drain?

You likely need a French drain if you are dealing with any of the following issues:

  • The "Spongy" Yard: Your grass stays soggy, muddy, or unusable long after the rain has stopped.
  • Basement or Crawlspace Water: Moisture is seeping through your foundation walls or up through the floor.
  • Standing Water in Flat Areas: Your yard has poor natural sloping, leaving water with nowhere to drain.
  • Retaining Wall Stress: Water is building up behind a retaining wall, which can eventually cause it to crack or lean.

How We Install Them at Go Away Drains

When we build a French drain, the goal is to make sure it never clogs and never needs to be dug up again. To do this, we use the NDS EZ Flow drainage system.

Instead of just dumping heavy, loose gravel into a trench—which can eventually clog with mud and roots—we use EZ Flow pipe. This is a slotted pipe pre-wrapped in a crush-proof poly-mesh and a professional-grade filter fabric.

This modern system flows water significantly faster than traditional gravel. The heavy-duty fabric keeps the dirt out, the mesh keeps the pipe protected, and the precise slope we measure ensures gravity does the work flawlessly. Once the pipe is in, we carefully backfill and replace the sod, leaving your yard looking like we were never there.

How Much Does a French Drain Cost?

Every property has different soil conditions, root systems, and slope challenges, which means every system is custom-priced.

For a professionally installed Go Away Drains French drain system utilizing premium EZ Flow materials, clients typically invest between $45 and $75 per linear foot, depending on the exact site conditions and the total length needed.

Because we don't like to guess, we offer a comprehensive $65 Drainage Evaluation. We will come to your property, figure out exactly where the water is coming from, map out the best route, and provide you with a fixed, line-by-line blueprint so you know exactly what the permanent solution will cost.
